Veteran Fire Fighter Retires Nearing 30 years of Service

Posted: Updated:

Veteran Firefighter Gerardo "Jerry" Salmeron is saying farewell to his Cal Fire family after 27 years of service.

During Salmeron's tenure, he's fought some of the largest wildfires in the state and helped save many lives.

His field of expertise is "search and rescue," and he was among the small group of brave first responders who answered the call to assist on September 11, 2001.

There is not one event that can define a career of heroism, but Thursday's emotional goodbye shows his service to the Coachella Valley and beyond left a meaningful experience.
