A fresh cut for a cause: to raise money for the funeral of Dulce Maria Vazquez, an 11 year-old-girl, who lost a two year battle with brain cancer.

"Her body started shutting down, her left side of the body was out, her arm gave out, her leg, her vision started going bad, her hearing," said Dulce's brother Edgar Vazquez. "She fractured her back; she was in bed completely immobile."

Downtown Barbers in Palm Springs is one of the local businesses helping with funeral expenses.

"We don't open on Sundays," said owner, Carlos Gamero. "We came and opened up today for my friend."

The barber and his client share a close connection.

"I have a handicap sister, she's 33 years old. I know what it feels like or to have something like that happen," continued Gamero.

On the same day the Ducle was laid to rest, money fundraised on her behalf was stolen from Tacos El Poblano in Cathedral City.

"It hurts more for that, it would have just been better if they took the tips we get," said Jonathan Uride, who witnessed the apparent crime. KMIR News is not showing the face of the alleged thief as he appears to be a minor. Cathedral City Police Department responded. The taco establishments says the money has not been returned. They don't want to press charges, rather,  just exchange the stolen money for this skateboard left behind.

"They're doing the best they can to help me cover my sister's funeral costs. My sister, she was a very kind energetic, she had a lot of energy, very loving kind girl," said Edgar Vazquez.

Downtown Barbers will continue to take donations this week.
