Two Day Tasty Tamale Festival

Indio, CA -

The city of Indio hosted thousands at the 25th annual International Tamale Festival. Saturday was the first of a two-day festival.

KMIR News is a proud sponsor of the event.

Apart from a parade and entertainers from across the Coachella Valley, food was main attraction.

"(What we’re) offering for this year is the spinach and cheese tamale,” said Pearla Talavera from San Fernando. “We also have sweet tamales which are the apple cinnamon. The masa also has a really nice moisture to it"

There were even organic tamale options from Que Mami Organics in Palm Desert.

"(We make) variations of traditional tamales that I learned to make with my mom, keeping some of the traditional tamales as well, but using certified organic ingredients," said Sylvia Garza, the owner of Que Mami Organics.

When visitors had their fill of tamales, there were plenty of other treats on hand.

"At this tamale festival, there's drinks, there's friends, there's family, and you get churros,” said eleven year old Jaden Herrera of Indio.
