Palm Desert, CA -

A man in a car stopped to snatch a woman's purse Tuesday in Palm Desert, police said.

The strong arm robbery was reported at 8:00 p.m. in the area of Alessandro Drive and San Jose Avenue, according to Palm Desert Police Department Sgt. Dave Smith.

The victim told police she was walking on Alessandro Drive when the suspect pulled up in a newer model, four-door car and engaged her in conversation. She said the suspect then exited the vehicle and grabbed her purse before getting back in the car and fleeing north on San Jose Avenue.

The victim described the suspect as between 20 and 25 years old, and heavyset. He was seen wearing a light colored sweatshirt and dark pants.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery was asked to call the Palm Desert Police Department at (760) 836-1600 or Crime Stoppers at (760) 341- STOP (7867). Tips can remain anonymous and may lead to a cash reward, police said.
