Palm Desert, CA -

Palm Desert's First Weekend returns Friday, offering a bevy of events through the weekend including street art, music, food trucks, and more.

Held on the first weekend of each month from November to May, First Weekend will begin its fourth season with El Paseo Cruise Night, featuring classic cars parked on the upper level of the Gardens on El Paseo parking structure, before the cars take off down El Paseo.

Other activities slated for today include STREET, an art and music celebration held atop the Macy's parking garage at the Westfield Palm Desert mall; the El Paseo Art Walk, featuring exhibit openings and artist receptions; a Dia de Los Muertos celebration; KCLB 93.7's 25th anniversary party at the Hood Bar & Pizza, and more.

The First Weekend event, which will continue through Sunday, also recently netted Palm Desert a Helen Putnam Award, which is given out by the League of California Cities for excellence in city services and programs.

Palm Desert received the award for Economic Development Through the Arts for furthering economic development, boosting tourism and increasing cultural offerings, as outlined in the city's strategic plan, according to city officials.

First Weekend is free to the public.
