Indio, CA -

Authorities released the name of an Imperial County woman who was struck and killed by a van after she walked onto an Indio freeway and into the path of a van.

Teresa Fierro, 36, of Calexico, was struck about 4:20 a.m. Tuesday in the left, or fast lane, of eastbound Interstate 10, just west of the state Route 86 interchange.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Radford, a 2006 Ford E-350 van was just east of Golf Center Parkway when Fierro, ``for unknown reasons,'' walked directly in front of the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene, Radford said.

The driver, a 36-year-old San Jacinto man, and six others inside the van were uninjured.

The fast lane just east of Golf Center Parkway was shut down for several hours for the investigation and cleanup.
