La Quinta Residents Save Stranded Dog

Posted: Updated:
La Quinta, CA -

Dozens of people who live in La Quinta Cove were moved to take action when they heard a dog wailing for days on top of the mountain near the wash.

Many said they tried calling animal control, police and fire to try to get help but when they were turned away several residents took action.

Two men reached the frightened pit bull mix on Saturday morning but then a group of five went up with supplies to coax the dog down. The climb was steep, rugged and dangerous, still the group was determined to reach a dog that they felt had little time to survive without food or water. Many watched and worried for hours about their neighbors on top of the mountain and wondered how they would climb down with the dog.

Thankfully hours later the group made it down safely with the dog. The dog was named Rocksi and adopted by one of the men who risked his life to save the stranded dog.

Neighbors came together and said they felt proud to live in a community that took action to rescue an animal who could only thank them with the wag of her tail.
