Tour De Palm Springs Brings Road Closures

PALM SPRINGS, Ca. - Events are scheduled to get underway Friday for the 17th annual Tour de Palm Springs bicycle races and fundraiser.
   With online registration closed, people wishing to take part can show up in person between noon and 8 p.m. Friday, or after 6 a.m. Saturday, at the event's administration area on the corner of Tahquitz Drive and North Palm Canyon Road.
   

Visitors on Friday can also visit the Vendor Expo, featuring merchandise from local nonprofit groups, bicycle gear and apparel, and a food court. The Vendor Expo will operate from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, on North Palm Canyon Drive, between Tahquitz Drive and Alejo Road.
   

On Saturday, the first race -- the 100-mile ``Escape the City Lights Ride'' -- begins at 6:30 a.m., followed by the start of progressively shorter races throughout the day. Other events include a 50-, 25-, 10- and 5-mile ride. There's also a 1.5-mile walk or 3-mile ride event that begins at 11 a.m.



Road closures are planned for the event:

• Palm Canyon Drive between Amado and Arenas roads will be closed to through traffic from 6 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13 until 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14.

• Tahquitz Canyon Way will be closed between Indian Canyon Drive and Belardo Road from 6 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, until 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14.

• Palm Canyon Drive will be closed between Amado and Alejo roads from 5 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 until noon on the same day.

• Alejo Road will be closed between Palm Canyon Drive and Indian Canyon from 5 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 until noon on the same day.

• Additionally, northbound Indian Canyon Drive from Alejo Road to Vista Chino will be reduced to one lane from approximately 6 a.m. through 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14.
