Coachella Fest Attendee Dies of Apparent Overdose

Posted: Updated:
24-year-old Kimchi Truong from Oakland died Thursday afternoon, four days after collapsing at Coachella Music and Arts Festival.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Coroner's initially reported it could have been an apparent overdose of "illicit drugs", but later stated it was too early to confirm.

According to the report, Truong collapsed on Saturday and was treated at a medical tent inside the festival. She was transported to JFK Hospital in Indio and later transferred to Desert Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead Thursday.

Goldenvoice sent KMIR this statement:

"Last weekend, a festival attendee suffered an apparent drug overdose. The individual was seen by on-site medical staff and later transferred to JFK Memorial Hospital and later to Desert Regional Medical Center. We are saddened to learn the individual has died. We believe this to be an unfortunate but isolated incident. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends."

Indio Police Department spokesman Ben Guitron said there was an incident in 2008 where a 21-year-old man was found dead a quarter mile of the festival at a private campground.

The coroner will conduct a toxicology test, which will determine the official cause of Truong's death. Those results could take up to six weeks.
