Gitzel Puente

Gitzel joined KMIR News in April 2013 as Videojournalist. Before her move to the desert, she reported for KNSD-NBC 7 in San Diego on general assignment news such as health and education.

She got her Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.

Gitzel helped start a 30-minute Spanish newscast  called "Cronkite NewsWatch" shown in the Phoenix Metropolitan area where she reported and anchored on issues affecting the Hispanic community.

She has interned for Telemundo 33 and Fox 5 in Phoenix, AZ. Also, she has worked behind-the-scenes as an associate producer for KAET, the PBS station in Phoenix, producing live shows.  

 In her free time, she enjoys going to French meetups, watching movies, trying out new cuisines and taking photographs with her DSLR camera. TravelliTravelingof her passions, and she has studied abroad in Quebec, Canada and Lille, France to study the French language.

Gitzel is originally from Yuma, AZ and is elated to cover stories at KMIR in the Coachella Valley.
