A U.S. Bank branch in Indio was robbed this afternoon, but no one was hurt, police reported. The robbery was reported shortly before 4 p.m. at the bank at Highway111 and Monroe Street. A man who entered the building and demanded money from a teller left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Major Quake Near Acapulco; No Reports of Serious Damage or Injury

A powerful, magnitude-7.2 earthquake has shaken central and southern Mexico.  The U.S. Geological Survey initially calculated the quake's magnitude at 7.5, but later downgraded it to 7.2.  It says the quake was centered northwest of the Pacific resort of Acapulco, where many Mexicans are vacationing for the Easter holiday.The quake was felt strongly in the resort city, as well as in Mexico's capital. Arraignment Postponed for Pape

INDIO - Arraignment was postponed today for accused killer Robert Pape.   

Pape is one of two men accused in the 2006 Pinyon Pines Triple Murders.

Today, Pape's new attorney, Richard Blumenfeld, asked for more time to become familiar with the case before his client's arraignment.   The request was granted and Pape's arraignment was rescheduled to May 16th.

A Coachella man was convicted today in the robbery-motivated shooting death of an Indio cab driver. Fabian Florence Perez, 30, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the Sept. 7, 2003, death of 30-year-old Carlos Rafael Cuellar Cardona. THERMAL -- A brush fire in Thermal is now fully contained after rapidly growing to 350 acres Saturday night.More than one hundred firefighters battled the blaze in the eastern end of the valley.The fire started around 4:30 Saturday in the area of Avenue 66 and Pierce Street.Highway 86 re-opened after being closed down because of the fire.
